COUGAR WOMEN DROP HEARTBREAKER TO JACKSON 74-73
The women's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker to Jackson State on Monday afternoon by a 74-73 final. The ladies overall record now stands 15-13 with a conference record of 9-11.
The ladies started out slow in the game, trailing 37-29 after the first twenty minutes of play. They would cut into the lead in the third quarter, but still trail by six, 62-56, going into the fourth quarter. They would take a brief lead at 71-70 before the vistors would grab the lead back. The Cougars had opportunities in the last minute, but attempts fell short in the comeback.
Kennedy Baker had 23 points to lead the team in scoring. Sloan Pender added 16, and Mar'Nazha Houston had 14 in the game. Ziara Thompson would drop in nine points in the game.
Houston would lead the team with 11 rebounds followed by Baker with nine and Pender with eight in the game.
Kayla Lopez would have nine assists followed by Damoni Kpana with three in the contest. Baker would lead the team with six steals, and Pender would have four on the day.
The ladies will now prepare for the region tournament scheduled to begin on Friday at Volunteer State in Gallatin (TN). The team is the seven seed and scheduled to play the host team Volunteer State (#10 seed) at 7pm EDT.
