WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TAKES 60-44 WIN AT SW TENNESSEE
The Cleveland women's basketball team made it nine wins in a row as they defeated Southwest Tennessee 60-44 in an important conference road win. The win improves the women's record to 11-5 overall and 5-4 record in conference play.
The ladies jumped out to a 22-6 lead after the first quarter. Southwest would cut the lead to seven after three quarters, but the Cougars would outscore their hosts 18-9 in the final ten minutes.
Sloan Pender would lead trio of double digit scorers with 15 points. Ziara Thompson would come off the bench to knock down 14 points. Kayla Lopez would have 11 points in the game.
Mar'Nazha Houston only scored six points but led the team with 17 rebounds. Macie Collins would follow with seven while Kennedy Baker finished with six. Thompson also had five in the contest as they outrebounded their opponents 52-44.
Collins and Damoni Kpana each finished with three assists to lead the team while Lopez and Pender each had two for the game. Lopez led the way with three steals.
The team will finish the first half of conference play on Wednesday as they travel to Knoxville to face Pellissippi State. Game time is set for 5:30 pm EST.
