LADY COUGARS DEFEATE PELLISSIPPI 64-60 IN OVERTIME
The women's basketball team defeated Pellissippi State in overtime 64-60 as they made game changing shots and defense to secure the win. With the win, the team's overall record improves to 15-12 and their conference record stands at 9-10.
The squad trailed for most of the game, but was able to erase their deficit late in the game. They were trailing in the overtime before Ziara Thompson hit a three-pointer to help the Cougars take the lead 62-60 with less than a minute play. A defensive rebound with 12 seconds left and two free throw by Macie Collins secured the win.
Collins would lead the team in scoring with 22 points. Kennedy Baker would be the only other scorer in double figures with 16 points. Mar'Nazha Houston added eight, Sloan Pender, and Kayla Lopez six in the contest.
Lopez would lead the team with six assists as Pender and Collins each two in the game. Pender and Baker led the team with four steals each while Collins had three.
The team returns to the hardwood on Monday as thye host their final regular season contest against Jackson State. This is a makeup game from January during the inclement weather that hit the state. Game time is set for 2pm EST.
