COUGARS DROP SEASON FINALE 80-69
The men's basketball team closed out their regular season with an 80-69 setback to Jackson State 80-69. With the loss, the Cougars record drops to 12-14 overall, and 8-12 in conference play.
The team maintained a lead for most of the first half before two costly turnovers found the squad down 40-38 at the half. The second half saw the game stay close with the visitors eventually grabbing a double digit lead late in the second half to pave their way to victory.
Xavier Washington and Pharez Nicholas were the only Cougars to reach double figures as each posted 14 points. Kedrick Franklin added nine, and Carson Boyle had eight points in the game.
Brandon Lanier led the team with seven rebounds while Franklin and Ramireon Taylor each grabbed five boards. Seneca Robinson had six assists and Taylor added five in the game. Jacob Turner had three steals to lead the team.
The Cougars now look ahead to postseason play as they are the sixth seed heading into the region tournament. They will face the 11 seed Southwest Tennessee on Friday, March 6, at 3pm EDT. The tournament is being hosted by Volunteer State in Gallatin (TN).
