COUGARS WIN THEIR CONFERENCE OPENER IN OT THRILLER, 87-83
The Cougar men's basketball team picked up an important road conference win on Saturday as they defeated Jackson State 87-83. Cleveland forced the overtime period when Zechariah Canidate put back an offensive rebound to tie the contest 71 apiece.
The Cougars shot only 35.9% for the game,but had 29 offensive rebounds as the outrebounded their hosts 58-40.
A.J. Horton led the teamwith 17 points. He also had four rebounds and two steals in the game. Brandon Lanier, Canidate, and Pharez Nicholas each reached double digits in the game. Lanier finished with 15 points while Canidate and Nicholas had 13 and 11 on the day.
Lanier had a double-double as he pulled down 15 rebounds. Canidate also reached a double-double with twelve boards. Nicholas finished the game with seven. Seneca Robinson had four assists and three steals to lead the team. Lanier and Alex Lowry each had three blocks in the game.
The Cougars are back on the road Wednesday with another important conference game. They will face Chattanooga State with game time set for approximately 7:30pm EST.
