Pro Golfer Brooks Thomas Named Head Coach of Cougar Golf
Brooks Thomas 3-time winner on the Professional Open Golf Atlanta tour in 2018 has been named the Head Coach of the Cleveland State men's golf team. A professional golfer since 2018 Coach Thomas finished eighth on the 2020 money list for the Swingthought tour and most recently qualified to be a competitor on the Korn Ferry Tour.
Thomas a graduate from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a Bachelor of Psychology degree brings a wealth of playing competition including four years of Division One golf at Tennessee Chattanooga along with assistant coaching experience at the Division One level.
Dreaming of being a PGA professional since the sixth grade Coach Thomas turned away from all other sports to focus exclusively on golf leading to championships as a junior golfer and a USGA qualifier in 2012 and 2013. As a collegiate golfer he earned All-Conference honors in the Southern Conference coupled with a variety of collegiate golf tournament wins. In his senior year he once again qualified for the USGA hosted in Los Angeles CA.
Well connected in the greater Chattanooga area at the Honors Golf Course and Council Fire Golf Club performing a variety of golf related activities, Coach Thomas looks to give the Cougar golf team a well versed total golf experience. Thomas said: "I am extremely excited to coach a group of collegiate young men golfers to be the best they can be both in the game and in the class room. I am passionate for what collegiate sports, especially golf can mean to the development of each student athlete."
Athletics Director Mike Policastro is exceedingly enthusiastic about Coach Thomas saying: "It is evident that Brooks Thomas has a passion for golf, education and life. I am confident that he will provide outstanding coaching and teaching for our student athlete golfers here at Cleveland State."
