VOLLEYBALL PREVIEW: THREE HOME DATES HIGHLIGHT WEEK
Cleveland State volleyball hits the floor again this week as they will host a trio of home contests. They will face the Regional Squad from Trevecca Nazarene on Tuesday, Sept. 2, before hosting Crown College on Thursday, Sept. 4. Both of those matches will start at 6:30p.m. On Saturday, Georgia Highlands will visit for a 2p.m. tilt.
Both Treveccaa and Crown will be seeing their first action of the season. Treveccaa is a NCAA Dvision II institution which has a varsity squad as well as the regional squad the Cougars will be competing against on Tuesday. Crown College is a christian institution which competes in the Unites State Collegiate Athletic Conference (USCAA) and will be bringing their varsity squad in on Thursday. Georgia Highlands currently sits at 0-5 on the season with a match scheduled during the week before making the trip to Cleveland.
The Cougars and Highlands met on Sept. 22 on the Highlands campus in the nightcap of the Three Rivers Classic where the Cougars prevailed by scores of 25-18, 25-6, & 25-8.
The Cougars have been off sine their triumphs at the Three Rivers Classic. Now, they will play four matches in the span of eight days including their conference opener versus Chattanooga State on Sept. 9.
Through the first two matches, Aaliyah Rodgers and Saylor Clark leaad the way with 18 total kills followed by Zowee Dillard with 17. Piper Bowers leads the way with 56 assists through the two matches. Isabella Messer leads the way with 27 digs. Bowers and Clark also reached double figures with 18 and 13. Bowers and Caroline church lead the squad with four and three total blocks. Bowers leads the team with six service aces followed by Rodgers with three. Jayla Gillespie, Megan Crocker, and Dillard each have two aces.
The Cougars are averaging 12 kills a set with a .226 hitting perccentage. They are averaging 11.33 assists a set and 16.83 digs per set. They average 1.17 blocks and 2.83 aces per set.
