NOLAN SERGEANT NAMED TCCAA PLAYER OF THE WEEK AFTER HISTORIC OFFENSIVE SURGE
CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Cleveland State sophomore infielder Nolan Sergeant has been named the TCCAA Baseball Player of the Week after delivering one of the most productive stretches of his collegiate career, powering the Cougars through a five-game slate against Pellissippi State and Southwest Tennessee.
Sergeant opened the week on March 24 at Pellissippi State, where he went 3-for-4 in the series opener, scoring a run and providing consistent quality at-bats in a narrow 5–3 road loss for the Cougars. In the second game of the doubleheader, he turned in one of the top offensive performances of the week, finishing 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs scored, a home run, and a stolen base as Cleveland State nearly completed a late comeback in an 11–10 battle.
Three days later, Cleveland State returned home to open its series with Southwest Tennessee. Sergeant collected a hit and scored a run in a tight 10–9 opener on March 27. That set the stage for the defining moment of the week in the second game of the doubleheader, when he launched a walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Cougars a dramatic 13–10 victory. He finished the contest 1-for-4 with four RBI.
Sergeant continued his strong play the following afternoon, adding another home run in a 6–4 win on March 28 while going 1-for-3 with three RBI and a walk. Across the five games, the sophomore posted a .474 batting average with 10 RBI, five runs scored, and two home runs, providing both power and timely hitting throughout the week.
Head Coach Aaron Bryant praised Sergeant's presence and competitive maturity. 'Nolan came up big for us all week, but that walk-off home run was something special,' Bryant said. 'He's a separator — when the game speeds up, he slows it down. Our guys feed off the way he competes every pitch, and he was the spark behind multiple wins.'
Sergeant's consistency, leadership, and ability to deliver in high-leverage moments made him the clear choice for TCCAA Player of the Week, punctuating a statement performance that reinforced his status as one of the conference's most impactful hitters. This is Sergeant's second time winning the award. The first was also followed by earning National Player of the Week honors.
