Cleveland State Community College put together a thrilling Saturday at Cougar Field, sweeping Pellissippi State Community College in dramatic fashion with a pair of walk-off victories to close out the doubleheader.
Game One: Leonard Delivers Walk-Off as Cougars Rally, 5–4 The Cougars opened the day with a come-from-behind 5–4 victory, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to stun Pellissippi State. After the Panthers pushed across four runs in the fourth, Cleveland State methodically worked its way back.
Jon Jon Read sparked the offense from the top of the order, going 2-for-2 with a double, two runs scored, two RBIs, and a walk. Nolan Sergeant added two hits and two RBIs, while Owen Phillips reached base three times, scored twice, and swiped two bases.
The comeback was capped in walk-off fashion by Evan Leonard, who came through with the game-ending hit to secure the Cougars' first win of the day. On the mound, Braden Suggs battled through six innings, striking out eight, before Evan Cope closed out the game with a scoreless seventh to earn the victory.
Game Two: Humble Shines, McKnight Walk-Off Walk Seals Sweep, 10–9 The nightcap delivered even more drama as Cleveland State outlasted Pellissippi State, 10–9, in another back-and-forth contest.
Jaxon Humble had a big day, scoring twice and driving in two runs while setting the tone offensively throughout the lineup. Evan Leonard continued his strong performance, finishing 3-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored, an RBI, and two walks. Nolan Sergeant chipped in with a double and two RBIs, while Hunter McDonald collected two hits.
With the Cougars trailing late, Cleveland State rallied once again. In the decisive moment, Nelson McKnight showed patience at the plate, drawing a walk with the bases loaded to force in the winning run and complete the sweep in walk-off fashion.
Additional contributions came from Kwade Carver (double), Owen Phillips (two runs scored), Jon Jon Read, and Nate Severance, as the Cougars showcased depth throughout the lineup.
Torrey Robinson earned the win in relief with a scoreless inning, while multiple arms combined to navigate a high-scoring offensive battle.
Head Coach Aaron Bryant praised his team's resilience following the sweep. "This team just keeps believing. No matter the situation, they stay together and compete pitch by pitch. We
had a lot of guys step up in big moments today, and that's what it takes to win games like these."
Up Next, Cleveland State will return to action next week with a conference road series at Motlow State, looking to carry the momentum from Saturday's sweep into another key matchup.
