Cleveland State Community College earned a road sweep Friday, defeating Roane State Community College 5–3 and 12–7 in a pair of 7-inning contests at Raider Field.
In the opener, Cleveland State scored three runs in the first inning and never trailed. Braden Suggs improved to 2–0, striking out nine over five innings, while Evan Cope secured the save. Nolan Sergeant, Jon Jon Read, and Hunter McDonald each drove in runs as the Cougars totaled eight hits.
The nightcap featured an offensive outburst as Cleveland State plated 12 runs behind three home runs from Sergeant, Evan Leonard, and Nate Severance. Sergeant scored four times, Severance drove in three, and Jaxon Humble added two RBIs. Parker Coe earned the win to move to 2–0.
"I was proud of the way our guys competed today," said Head Coach Aaron Bryant. "We played with energy, got solid pitching, and stayed aggressive offensively. Sweeping on the road in conference play is big for us."
Cleveland State improves to 10–4 overall and 3–0 in conference play and returns home Tuesday to host Gordon State.
