MAX OWENS EARNS PITCHER OF THE WEEK HONORS AFTER DOMINANT OUTING AT JACKSON STATE
CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Cleveland State Community College sophomore right-hander Max Owens has been named the TCCAA Pitcher of the Week following a dominant performance in the Cougars' 13–2 road victory over Jackson State Community College last weekend.
Owens was outstanding on the mound, earning the win after throwing seven strong innings, allowing just three hits and one unearned run while striking out nine batters. The right-hander faced 27 hitters, issued only two walks, and consistently kept Jackson State off balance as Cleveland State pulled away for the conference win. Owens finished his outing with 107 pitches, generating 10 flyouts and two groundouts while limiting the Green Jays to minimal scoring opportunities.
Cleveland State's offense provided steady support throughout the afternoon, but it was Owens' command and efficiency that set the tone early. After surrendering an unearned run in the third inning, Owens settled in and retired 13 of the final 15 batters he faced, allowing the Cougars to build a comfortable lead as the game progressed.
Head Coach Aaron Bryant praised Owens' competitiveness and poise on the road.
"Max was in complete control from the start," Bryant said. "He attacked the strike zone, competed every pitch, and gave us exactly what you want from a Friday guy on the road. That outing really set the tone for our weekend."
Owens' performance at Jackson State continued a strong stretch during conference play. On the season, he owns a 4–1 record with a 3.86 ERA, having logged 42.0 innings across seven starts. He has struck out 53 batters while holding opposing hitters to a .226 batting average, further establishing himself as a reliable anchor in Cleveland State's rotation.
With Owens leading the way on the mound, Cleveland State improved to 20–7 overall and 13–2 in TCCAA play, continuing to position itself near the top of the conference standings as the season moves deeper into March.
