FORMER COUGAR RYAN CASTEEL HELPS TEAM WIN SOUTHERN LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP
Former Cleveland State baseball player Ryan Casteel was the starting first baseman for the Jackson Generals of the Southern League. The Generals just completed a three game sweep of the Mississippi Braves to the win the league's championship.
The Generals advanced to the championship series as they took a best of five series from the Montgomery Biscuits 3-1.
Casteel started out the season in the Colorado Rockies organization, but found himself picked up by Seattle Mariners midway through the summer. He appeared in 50 games for the Generals, hitting .243 with three home runs and 38 RBIs.
In the postseason, he connected on two home runs with five RBIs.
