CLEVELAND – For the second time this week, Cleveland State blew past their on-court opponent.
The Cougars (14-6, 8-6) put together another total team effort to rock Chattanooga State (14-9, 8-6) 80-59 Saturday evening in conference play.
"That was a fun one – It was a full team effort and a lot of people contributed," Cougars head coach Lee Cigliano declared.
Four players reached double-digit scoring in the game, with Tevin Olison leading the way with 17 points. Cam Copeland followed with 16 points and Jordan Olison had 13. Victor Curry came up big for the Cougars both in scoring and rebounding and had a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds.
"I thought Cam Copeland had a great game at point guard – he really controlled the tempo. I thought we had an edge at that position today because they had lost their starting point guard about two and a half weeks ago to an ACL injury, so they were a little short in that position which helped us a lot (Saturday)," Cigliano detailed.
"Vic rebounded great in the second half. Tevin had a solid game and Jordan Olison had a good game shooting and giving us a lift."
Cleveland State allowed Chattanooga State only 21 points in the first half, while scoring 41 points of their own to take a 20-point lead into halftime.
The two teams were a bit more evenly matched in the second half. The Cougars outshot the Tigers 39-38, but their strong start proved too much for the visitors to overcome.
The Cougars were 44 percent from behind the arc, with Tevin Olison, Copeland and Alfonzo Peoples each hitting a trio of treys in the game. Jordan Olison sank two 3-pointers of his own.
Prior to Saturday's game, Jordan Olison, Elijah McCoin, Tucker Bass and Jordan Williams were honored for sophomore recognition night.
"I appreciate all their contributions and them coming to Cleveland State for their final year of junior college and hopefully they're going on to bigger and better things. This was a good way to celebrate sophomore day," the coach said.
Cleveland State hosts Roane State on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. for its final home game of the season.
