Cougar softball opened their conference schedule with a split with Columbia State. They dropped the first game of the day 5-2 before bouncing back with an 8-0 victory in 5 innings.
In game one, the Cougars took the lead in the bottom of the first inning when they plated two runs after Columbia had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the inning. Columbia would reclaim the lead in the top of the second, and continue on to the win.
The team belted out five hits in the first game with Heidi Johnson collecting a double and triple with one RBI. Mylee Howard would have a single and knock in the other run in the first game. Sloane Watson and Jayme Tiberio had the other hits.
Gisele Tankersley would take the loss, going two innings, surrendering three earned runs on six hits with one strikeout. Reagan Frakes would go five innings in her first action of the season. She would surrender one earned run on six hits with one walk and four strikeouts.
In game two, the squad had a 2-0 lead before exploding for six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take an 8-0 lead. They would retire Columbia in the top of the fifth for the win.
The team had 11 hits in the game, led by Milan Pemberton, Emily Holcomb, and Lilly Griffits each with two hits. Howard would have double and drive in three runs while Destini Jensen also had three RBIs with a home run. Pemberton would knock in the other two runs.
Sierra Howard would take the win. She went all five innings, surrendering one hit with four walks and eight strikeouts.
