Cleveland State took the 2019 TCCAA Men's Basketball title with a 70-58 win over Roane State. They earn a bid to play in the NJCAA National Tournament at the Hutchinson Sports Arena in Hutchinson, Kan. March 18-23. The bracket and seeding will be revealed on Monday, March 11 at 12:30 ET.
The game started out as a game of runs.
Roane State went on a 5-0 run to start the game, with James Jordan scored 11 before the halfway point of the quarter. Cleveland State came back and tied the game 9-9 at the 15:51 point of the first half on a Jonathan King free throw, but then the Raiders built the lead back up to eight points.
A Darius Turman three tied the game at 25 midway through the first. Cleveland State took a 29-27 lead at the 4:32 mark, but then Roane State built the lead back up to four with 2:17 left in the half. The Raiders led 37-34 at halftime.
Coming out of the half, Roane State grew the lead to five, but Cleveland State regained the lead and built it up to 12 points after Kerry Pratt drained a three-pointer through contact and made a free throw to convert a four-point play at the 7:44 point of the second half and remained up by double-digits for a good part of the games final minutes as they were able to pull away from the Raiders to claim the TCCAA title.
Jordan led all scorers with 21 points.
