Cleveland State Community College hosted a tri-match with Johnson University and Georgia Northwestern Technical College Monday evening. The first match of the night had Cleveland State matched up against Johnson University. The Lady Royals defeated the Lady Cougars in straight sets, by scores of 25-15, 25-18 and 25-23. The Lady Cougars didn't hold a lead until the third set when they held an 8-5 total over Johnson. The Lady Cougars held a close but steady lead until the end of the match when Johnson finally took over and completed the match victory. The loss in match puts the Lady Cougars at 2-3 in the last five matches.
The second game tilted Georgia Northwestern against Johnson University. The Lady Royals of Johnson University defeated Georgia Northwestern in straight sets.
The Lady Cougars had Georgia Northwestern in game three of the tri-match. Cleveland State won the match by a score of 3-0. The Lady Cougars cruised through the first set, starting off with an early 9-5 lead. They kept rolling and after a string of solid spikes and kills, the Lady Cougars took set one by a deciding score of 20-11. Set two sang by a similar tune, as the Lady Cougars once again jumped out to an early 8-3 lead. Playing hard and determined, Cleveland State rolled to a 22-13 lead eventually winning by a score of 25-15. Moving on, in what was the match-winning set for the Lady Cougars, CSCC found themselves in a strong 12-4 lead. Georgia Northwestern tried everything they could to get back into the game but Cleveland State kept pushing, taking set three 25-24 and the match three sets to none.
The win now puts the Lady Cougars record at 5-3 (0-1). Next up on the schedule, Cleveland State will travel to Snead State Community College for a road match on Wednesday, September 12th at 5:00 PM.
