Ten Cleveland State student athletes were honored by the NJCAA for solid academic success as they were named NJCAA Academic All-Americans. The NJCAA has three levels; Pinnacle for a 4.0 GPA (Grade Point Average), Superior for athletes with a GPA between 3.8 and 3.99, and Exemplary for those athletes with a GPA of 3.6 to 3.79.
Jacklyn Griffith, a freshman on the women's basketball team, earned the Pinnacle Award. Those earning a Superior Award were freshman Brittany Arnold, freshman Haley Hodgson, freshman Madison Stiner, freshman Mikayla Teal, freshman Rachael Goodson from the softball team as well freshman women's basketball player Catherine Davis.
Sophomore baseball player Ryan Mahaffey also earned a Superior Award while sophomore baseball players Christian Burnett and Christian Amos were awarded with an Exemplary Award.
The TCCAA also handed their Academic All-Conference Awards during the summer. Sophomores named had to maintain a 3.0 GPA with 48 hours of completion while freshman had to have 24 hours with a 3.2 GPA.
Joining Arnold, Hodgson, Stiner, Teal, and Goodson from the softball team were freshmen Cameron Baltimore, Emily Banks, McKenzie Bedwell, Carly Frost, and Mekala White along with sophomores Hannah Godfrey, Courtni Hammers, Kara Headrick, and Tori Townson.
Joining Griffith and Davis from the women's basketball teams were freshman JaTasha Hollinger as well as sophomores Kelsey Ivey, Brandi Kilpatrick, and Sarah Martinez.
Freshmen John Anderson, Devon Gardner, and sophomores Drew Curtis, Matt Henshaw, Lee Gibson, Colton Morgan, Austin Phillips, Koltyn Plumb, and Hagan Wilkey joined Mahaffey, Amos, and Burnett from the baseball team.
