Volleyball opened their 2019 TCCAA campaign with a tough, 3-0 loss at Walters State on Tuesday night.
The Lady Cougars, though, improved in each set as the game continued on.
The first set was the hardest of the match for the Lady Cougars, as they fell 25-6. However, they distributed the points they scored in the set well, with Stephanie Burke, Abbie Stinnett, Madeline Dasher, and Hannah Collins each recording a kill in the frame.
The second set, Cleveland State suffered a 25-10 defeat. Burke had two kills in the frame, with Stinnett and Dasher each killing the ball again in the set. Celie Patterson also posted an impressive score from the back row, while Stinnett also played well on defense in the second set, recording a block for the Lady Cougars.
The third set was the best of the night for Cleveland State, as they fell 25-15. Burke again recorded two kills in the frame, with Dasher and Patterson also scoring a kill a piece. Sydney Allen was a force in the set, posting an ace and a huge block for the Lady Cougars. Collins also recorded a block in the frame.
The Lady Cougars will be back in action tomorrow evening as they travel to Bryan College to face the Lady Lions JV team. Match time is set for 7:00 ET.
