Cougars Win Close One Against Wallace State

Cleveland State's Men's Basketball defeated Wallace State in a tightly contested matchup, 77-74. This puts the Cougars at 4-2 on the season with a game against Jackson State coming on Friday.

Leading the Cougars was Tevin Olison who scored 24 points on 7-15 shooting. Also contributing was Domont'a Wright, who had 14 points, 6 rebounds, and a block. Cam Copeland had 8 points with 6 assists, and 2 steals, while Delaino Walker had 8 points and 6 rebounds. Victor Curry had 14 points and 11 rebounds, making it his fifth double-double in 6 games. Curry currently sits 6th in the NJCAA in total rebounds and 8th in rebounds per game. Also, Tevin Olison and Victor Curry currently rank 2nd and 3rd in the NJCAA in free throws going 38-43 and 36-50 respectively.

Head Coach Lee Cigliano commented on Curry's rebound ability, "Victor plays with tenacity and drive, a kind of a blue-collar mentality, which serves him well on the court to do what he does. He has, to use a coaching phrase, "nose for the ball" when it comes to rebounding or just being around the ball on the glass. He is a hard worker day to day which maintains the mindset he possesses."

Coach Cigliano continued, commenting on their schedule the next few weeks, "This stretch before Thanksgiving break is a challenging one with 3 tough opponents, including two conference games.  We need to improve on many things to be competitive.  After the Thanksgiving break we have about a week and a half and then are off until January, so basically, we have two and a half weeks of games and practices left.  We need to value each day together and get the most out of each one.  The record will always be the one measurement to evaluate how we are doing but I hope all of us take what we do on the floor each day in practice and make the most of it."

The Cougars came out victorious in game 1 of their 3 game week. They'll look to carry the momentum in a conference tilt against Jackson State on Friday, November 17th at 7:30 PM.
